Barry D. Kellman
Prior to becoming a business and employment lawyer, Mr. Kellman enjoyed a distinguished career as a Chief Executive Officer in the retail, publishing, and hospitality industries. On a daily basis, he puts that “real world” experience to use on behalf of our clients. His practical advice on recruiting, hiring, compensation, discipline and termination frequently resolves conflicts before they ripen into litigation.
When a lawsuit is necessary, our clients place well-earned confidence in Mr. Kellman’s courtroom skills. In state court, federal court and government hearings, he has successfully defended hundreds of clients, ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies, against claims of sexual harassment, discrimination, wrongful termination and related issues. On a selective basis, Mr. Kellman also represents individuals with meritorious employment claims.
Mr. Kellman is a skilled negotiator with a reputation for getting deals done. He has managed numerous employment audits and has overseen all employment issues arising from mergers and acquisitions. He is proficient at drafting the entire array of employment-related documents, from executive employment and confidentiality agreements to policy manuals.
Mr. Kellman is a member of the State Bar of California and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He appears regularly as a guest speaker for the California Employment Development Department. He is admitted to practice before each of the United States District Courts in the State of California and the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Mr. Kellman is a summa cum laude graduate of UCLA. He received his J.D. from UCLA School of Law, where he was also named Distinguished Advocate in the Roscoe Pound Moot Court Tournament.

Ms. Kleiman has practiced law in Los Angeles since 1997, with an emphasis on employment law since 2000. Her practice spans all aspects of employment law, including family and medical leaves, discrimination and harassment, wrongful termination, and wage and hour issues. She has extensive experience advising employers regarding the creation of internal policies and application of employment law best practices, and regularly provides advice on sensitive issues such as pregnancy disability and workplace violence. Ms. Kleiman’ s clients span a wide range of industries, and include large multi-office corporations as well as high net-worth individuals with household staff. Ms. Kleiman also represents employers in administrative actions before agencies such as the California Department of Industrial Relations and the EEOC.
Prior to joining Kellman & Kleiman, Ms. Kleiman was a University Counsel for the California State University system. In that capacity, she helped develop campus human resources policies, negotiated and drafted employment-related agreements, and supervised the investigation of discrimination and harassment complaints. Ms. Kleiman began her career as a litigator in the Los Angeles office of a large national law firm.
Ms. Kleiman graduated from Pomona College with a B.A. in International Relations. She received her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law where she was the editor-in-chief of the Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems. She is a member of the State Bar of California.

Ms. Mercer brings to her practice over 15 years of experience as a litigator and counselor, with an emphasis on employment law and related business matters. As former Senior Counsel for the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, Ms. Mercer has particular expertise in matters relating to the entertainment industry. In addition to representing our clients in state and federal courts and administrative proceedings, Ms. Mercer counsels employers on the full spectrum of HR compliance issues.
Ms. Mercer is a magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Boston College. She received her J.D. from American University: Washington College of Law, where she was Note and Comment Editor of the Journal of Gender and the Law.
Ms. Mercer is admitted to practice before all California state and federal courts, and is a member of the American Bar Association.
